Renewal

When is trademark renewal required?

In Indonesia, a registered trademark is valid for 10 years from the filing date and may be renewed for the same period repeatedly. Renewal is important to:

Maintain Exclusive Rights

Ensure your exclusive right to use the trademark continues without interruption.

Avoid Losing the Mark

If renewal is not filed on time, the mark may expire and become vulnerable to registration by others.

Protect Business Investment

Provide certainty for branding, marketing, and business expansion activities.

The right time to renew

6 Months Before Expiry

You may file a trademark renewal as early as 6 months before the expiration date. Renewing early helps the process proceed smoothly and reduces the risk of delay.

Grace Period

If the deadline has already passed, a 6-month grace period remains available after the expiration date. However, renewal during the grace period is subject to an additional penalty fee under the applicable rules.
